About Me

I am a second year mechanical engineering student at the University of Alberta. I am enrolled in the co-op program and am seeking employment in Fall 2020 for an 8 month work term. I love engineering science and am simply itching to put myself out in the work force and begin making a significant difference. When I am not working on schoolwork though what I really love doing is tinkering with everything. Whether that be Raspberry Pi’s, my own 3D printer, or building computers. You will rarely find me not working on something that interests me.

My Education

After graduating from Bev Facey Community High School with Honors in 2018 I enrolled in the University of Alberta. I am currently completing my second year of studies in the mechanical engineering program. My expected program completion is in April of 2023. I currently have achieved an overall GPA of 3.4 and am striving to keep improving that going forward.

Where I've Worked

Assistant Coach with the Sherwood Park Stingrays

I swam with this club for seven years, however once I quit I never really could escape it. I still wanted to be involved in the community so I approached my old coach in hopes of a job with the club. Luckily he did have work for me because this was one of the biggest impacts on my life. I worked this job for four years part time and through it I was broken out of my shell. I was forced into a leadership role and this was invaluable for me. I learned how to be a role model and a leader through necessity and I am very grateful for this. Not only that but I had the responsibility to plan ahead lessons and ensure a top quality of coaching standard through further education and courses taken.

Demolition Assistant with Axom Contracting

This was a summer job I had during 2018. I was tasked with hauling all the debris out of an office building as it was being gutted. It was hard work but with the help of two fellow colleagues we were able to haul over thirty tons of waste out of the building. Not only that but at a much faster rate than the crew in charge of demolishing the building could keep up with. This job showed me my physical limits and I loved it for doing so.

Project Administrator with Swim Alberta

I love the sport of swimming and knew that I would be unable to further commit myself to it. So in the summer of 2019 I took this full time position with Swim Alberta, the provincial governing body for swimming in Alberta, to help run the All Star Team and complete tasks they were unable to. Running the All Star team required me to vet and hire coaches for the position as well as identify and recruit swimmers who met the All Star standards. It was a great learning opportunity as I was able to see just how complicated and difficult logistics can get at times for something so simple as a swim team. When I was done with that task I was allowed lots of freedom to do as I pleased in the office. With this free time I was able to identify many workflow inefficiencies and used my knowledge of python and microsoft excel to begin automation of many mundane tasks around the office. It was great being able to leave a lasting impact on a sport I admire.

Major Projects

MEC E 260 Design Project

The MEC E 260 design project was an invaluable experience for me. It showed me truly how difficult even something as simple as an electric car can be to construct. Seen on the left is the final render of my groups car. It was very interesting to have to use various skills I never had to apply in personal projects I have worked on before. This includes things like material budgeting, proposal and final report writing,  and teamwork. It taught me a lot about how I must act while working in teams and the expectations of myself and others.

Albertaloop

This is a currently ongoing project for myself. I am involved in the Albertaloop student group at the U of A as a member of the propulsion subdivision. Albertaloop is aiming to compete in the SpaceX annual hyperloop pod competition in Summer of 2021. I am specifically working on the levitation system for the pod in collaboration with eight other students. While we are currently in research phase it has taught me a lot about how valuable it can be to learn from others. All past projects I have worked on were well established problems so working on cutting edge technologies are incredibly interesting and rewarding to be contributing to.

Interests & Hobbies

What I Love

My personal interests and hobbies are all over the place. When I am looking to relax I love to just sit down and tinker with all kinds of things. Mostly just sitting down and doing some 3D modelling then printing it. However I do enjoy getting up and going too. Throughout the summer I love to bike all over the place with my friends as well as longboard. Not only that but I also really enjoy going waterskiing and wakesurfing with my family. One of the more boring interests of mine is that I love keeping up on my stock portfolio. It is a real rush to invest and watch what the market does and adapt my investment strategies accordingly.
